Survey respondents overwhelmingly back competency framework

The vast majority of respondents to the Council’s latest member survey said that the Council’s competency framework provides valuable support for their professional development.

The survey, which took place last year, attracted a record number of respondents. In addition to 93% of them endorsing the March 2021 competency framework, the survey found that:

  • 83% strongly agree/agree the Council’s Loop, newsletters, Parliamentary reports have kept them up-to-date with market developments.
  • 80% strongly agree/agree the Council’s thought leadership reports and market surveys inform the market & others about the importance & role of equity release & the evolution of the market.
  • 78% strongly agree/agree the Council’s new member endorsement mark provides a strong & recognisable visual statement of quality, reassurance, professionalism and trust for customers.
  • 75% strongly agree/agree the Council’s recent suite of legal webinars have provided a great learning opportunity.
  • 74% of respondents said that membership of the Council is essential and brings credibility.

Lorraine Cox, the Council’s business development and membership relations manager, said: “It’s vital for us to know what our members think so we can develop and deliver our member proposition and we had a fantastic response rate to our Q4 member survey, our best response to date.

“Everyone at the Council is extremely grateful to the members that took the time to complete the survey and we are looking forward to building on the record response rate with our 2022 member surveys.”

Respondents were put into a prize draw for a £250 Fortnum & Mason hamper, which was won by Levi Culshaw from Fluent Lifetime, who became an equity release adviser in 2021.

She said: “One of my first experiences of the Council was reading the competency framework. It provided guidance to set out the standards I needed to adhere to to help me to provide the best advice to my clients. Alongside the help and support of my training manager, Jane Massie, the framework was particularly helpful to track and monitor my progress to achieve competent adviser status.

“I completed the Council’s survey to give my own honest opinion on the lenders, products and service levels in the market as we are the whole of market advisers at Fluent Lifetime. I never expected to win as the most I have ever won is £1 on a scratch card so I was delighted to have won the Fortnum & Mason hamper.”
